The Real Abbot's Way - A Pilgrimage Across The Dartmoor Wilderness

Join Nick on a spiritual adventure across Dartmoor following a line of ancient stone crosses.

For centuries, medieval monks used these waymarks to travel between Buckfast and Tavistock abbeys but a mapping error in the 19th century led to a different route for the ‘Abbot’s Way’ becoming established.

Inspired to follow the original path of 18 surviving crosses, Nick takes on the challenge of the Dartmoor wilderness, a pathless expanse where sudden mists and treacherous mires await the unwary. He discovers the monuments of Bronze Age people, ancient churches and remote abandoned places where those who made a living above and below the surface left their mark.

At its heart is a spiritual journey, where isolation and big skies invite a conversation with God, and Dartmoor’s natural beauty opens a doorway to the divine.
